The 2019 Science Innovation Competition saw budding native entrepreneur Miss Soukaina Rabii (agri-tech and health tech) come out on top of the competition during a ceremony that took place on December 22nd 2019 in Casablanca, Morocco. The AMEU research committee praised Miss Rabii’s proof-of-concept for a user-friendly and effective web-based e-Health system as ‘the first step towards revolutionizing the digital landscape and how we consume healthcare information’.

The research identified early-stage design requirements for an e-Health application called ‘PocketDoc’ which aims to facilitate care coordination in multiple chronic disease management. It is set to be tested in Casablanca, Morocco. ‘It could serve as the blueprint for deriving other e-Health tools, further strengthening primary and remote care’, commented AMEU Vice-President Professor Rachid Aboutaieb, also a surgeon and researcher at Cheikh Khalifa University Hospital.

Considering the lack of infrastructure and appropriate health resources in Morocco, the concept behind the solution could render healthcare services more accessible and cheaper in the country’s most remote areas, while also creating more resources for employment.

Finally, Miss Rabii hopes her research will incentivize nation leaders ‘to unlock more funding in support of impactful, social-change driven solutions to every-day, real-world problems’ while ‘speeding up interdisciplinary innovation across the Moroccan tech ecosystem’.
